Col. Hollingsworth and I went to the officer’s club for breakfast at 7:30 a.m.; to Headquarters at 8. Visited Gen. Taylor, in his office, had a cup of tea. At 8:30, Taylor introduced me. I spoke for exactly one hour, taking up on conditions on Taiwan and on the mainland. Then followed a coffee break of 10 minutes. At 9:45, period of questions and answers for 40 minutes. I had learned that the Air War College had invited Scalapelo 【Scalapino]【1】 of San Francisco to present case for the Reds and therefore tried to anticipate his arguments.
Return plane left at 11 a.m. local time and landed in MATS 【軍用空運勤務部]【2】 at 4:20 p.m., Wash. time, very smooth flight, with a steak luncheon and some good bourbon.
Practiced golf on the grounds.
Hilda 【沈恩欽] showed me two issues of China Tribune 華美日報, carrying more gossip about the incident when members of the Chinese delegation joined in the ovation to Ben Bella in the U.N.
