Gave tea in honor of Miss Liu 【劉秀嫚], who placed 4th in the Miss Universe contest in Miami. She is very thin, has good figure, but not very attractive face, a simple honest girl. Her chaperone, Mrs. Yuan 【魏淑娟], is a truly beautiful woman. To the tea, we invited the children of high school or college age, of the staff and of Chinatown. Most of them have bad manners.【1】
Attended dinner given by Mrs. Mesta in Chevy Chase Club. Senator Holland【2】 of Georgia and Senator Neuberger【3】 of Oregon (women), ambassadors of Panama, Greece, and Iran were the other guests. Walsh, husband of a very intellectual wife,【4】 Irish Catholic, anti-Kennedy, made up this story. He walked past the White House with a copy of the New York Herald Tribune. Bobby Kennedy saw him and threatened to put in motion the machinery of the Justice Department against him. He produced a certificate of Edgar J. Hoover. Bobby reluctantly let him pass.
