Kiernan of Ireland returned my call. To my surprise, he asked if there was any political meaning to the publication of U.S. Foreign Relations, 1943.
Lai 【賴家球] told me that a friend of his in State Department phoned to say that my statements to Harriman yesterday on the book were hailed by him and some of his colleagues.
Martin 【王蓬] brought back record of C.’s 【蔣中正] conversation and Chen Cheng’s 【陳誠], with Harriman. I can see that C. made a reasonable plea for a trial effort.
Kiang 【江易生] told me that Hornbeck asked Tsui if my appointment to Washington was interim. Chu Wu-sen’s 【朱撫松]【1】 daughter visits the Hornbecks. Did she pick up some gossip from her mother who was in Washington for 2 weeks?
