Left home at 9:45 a.m. T. H. Chang 【張道宏] had come to say goodbye and to see about the house, since during our absence, he, his daughter and her husband will live in it.
We arrived at Penn Station at 10:30. Dr. 【魏學仁] and Mrs. Wei, Kiang 【江季平], N. S. Cheng 【鄭寶南], Helen, Hsi-ling 【鄭錫霖] were there to see us off. The mid-day Congressional Limited left promptly at 11. We had lunch in the dining car. As we entered Delaware, we noticed that snow remained only in ——; in ——, and no snow on the ground. It turned out to be a bright sunny day in Washington.
At the station, the protocol people, the staff, and a large number of Chinese residents turned out: quite a large crowd.
The Chinese followed us to Twin Oaks, where we had an impromptu reception, serving tea.
Evening, dinner for the staff, just to get acquainted.
Twin Oaks is a vast estate, with 20 acres. The house is old, large, and very suitable for an embassy. The individual rooms are simply vast. The main bedroom is the vastest of all. All in good condition.
