Legislator Wang 【王雋英] came to tell me about the Democratic Convention at Chicago, which she attended.
A Mr. Lee, a former beau of Gladys, dropped in a little before 1 p.m. Went to lunch together. He is a purser on the SS Pres. Cleveland, now vacationing.
Golf practice.
Watched the Yankees-White Sox game on TV.
Donald 【蔣居仁] and Claire came home at 12 midnight.
Suez conference over. The U.S.S.R. has been soft in speech and hard in substance. India, Ceylon, and Indonesia have softened towards the West. A 5-nation committee has been authorized to negotiate with Egypt. So far as the future can be seen, there is no settlement in sight. The West will not go to war. The U.S.S.R. warns that in a war, Egypt will not be alone; there will be volunteers.
