Beautiful sunny day. Donald 【蔣居仁] came back last evening. He, Hilda 【沈恩欽], and myself went into the city, they to go to Chinatown to buy groceries and I to attend Disarmament Commission.
Sobolev of the U.S.S.R. declared Ike’s plan of air reconnaissance included no disarmament and no prohibition of nuclear weapons and the West was therefore responsible for the failure of the sub-committee. Naturally, Nutting, Lodge, Moch, and Martin hit back.
Took Hilda and Donald to lunch in the U.N. dining room.
Watched Texas U. play Texas A&M on TV.
Evening, watched TV. Groucho Marx【1】 was not at his best, but better than the other entertainers.
Long talks with Donald on human motives—profit, fame, instinct of workmanship, and religion.
