蒋廷黻日记>19530213

Received a letter from a Jones who wished to adopt Chinese citizenship and volunteer for the army, another from X applying for a technical job. Told them to offer their services to the U.S. government.
The papers either did not publish C.’s 【蔣中正] interview with UP 【合眾社] or published it in back pages. Reason: nothing new. UP tried for a scoop. C. gave the news out in a general comment. After a few days, he answered the questions of UP.
C. M. Chen 【陳之邁] phoned from Washington that demand for a blockade dying and that more and more people there thinking of an independent offensive on the part of Formosa.
Appeared on Chronoscope. So far as I was concerned, I said all. I wanted to say in one sentence: “President Eisenhower’s order means that we Chinese have now the right and the opportunity to fight for our freedom; we mean to make good use of the right and the opportunity.” There were other dreary questions about supplies, asked by Bill Gray and William Huie.【1】
