Beautiful, warm day, 70°. Saw the glass flowers in Peabody museum and looked at the stone monuments of Maya culture and the quartz in the geological museum. Drove to MIT; then along the Charles River to Clarkstown, to see Bunker Hill Monument. Visited Paul Revere’s house near Hanover St., where the keeper asked me questions about the Chinese Communists. Faneuil Hall: we stood around for a long time, refusing to believe it was the hall, on account of the markets on the first floor. The hall itself is in wonderful condition. On the floor above is an armory, hung with pictures. The keeper made fun of them. Had lunch in Ye Olde Oyster Shoppe on Union St.
Saw the tablet marking the Boston Massacre; then the tablet marking the Boston Tea Party, where the wharf was stands the Atlantic Ave. From there, motored to the Boston Museum of Fine Arts—splendid Chinese paintings and sculpture. By 5 p.m., Hilda 【沈恩欽], Erh Pao 【蔣壽仁], and Sze Pao 【蔣居仁] were deadly tired. All took a nap. After supper, Sze Pao and I went to look for Longfellow’s home and Washington Elm, and found them both.
