Sir Benegal Rau of India called, wanted to know if I intended to call a meeting on Kashmir and how he could get a meeting, etc. I asked him if any useful work could be done by the Security Council in way of bringing about economic agreement between India and Pakistan. He could not say.
Dr. Blanco【1】 of Cuba called. Told him that I would ask him to preside when the Soviet resolution came under consideration.
Liang Yuen-li 【梁鋆立],【2】 representing Trygve Lie, came to inquire if I would vacate chair, when the Soviet resolution came under consideration. I told him yes.
Shuhsi 【徐淑希] and C. L. 【夏晉麟] came to chat: full of worry and dispute, but little that is constructive.
Afternoon, dictated a statement for the Security Council tomorrow.
Took family to dinner in 金塘. Met Liang Lone 【梁龍] and wife there. Asked them to come to chat. They had many interesting things to say about life in Czechoslovakia, very similar to life in Russia.
