蒋廷黻日记>19480904
Beautiful day. Morning, office. Dictated the greater part of Wang’s 【王世杰] speech before the General Assembly: Korea, Indonesia, and ECAFE 【聯合國亞洲及遠東經濟委員會].
After lunch, took Erh 【蔣壽仁], Sze 【蔣居仁], and Hilda 【沈恩欽] to Lake Quadport【1】 in Rockland County for rowing. Admission, 50 cents per person; parking 50 cents per hour, boating 50 cents per hour. State Parks charge no admission fee; other charges are almost half. Found out the Lake is owned by one person, who refused one million dollars to yield his property rights. The scenery and the facilities are mediocre. On the lake shore are many bungalows, let out to vacationers. Here we have an example of private interest against public welfare. The lake is only one hour’s ride from N.Y.C. could be made a source of pleasure and health to hundreds of thousands.
Sze Pao complained of pain in his right ear. The corner drug store got a doctor to came to the apartment, who gave him a dose of penicillin and prescribed some sulfa drugs to be on the safe side, although he found nothing worry, he said. A very likeable young doctor.
N. Z. 【唐玉瑞] phoned, wanting to see me.
