Beautiful day. Morning, office. Cheng Hsi-meng 【程希孟],【1】 as new advisor sent by the Ministry, arrived. To my surprise, he prefers to work in the Economic and Social Council. Otherwise, he had nothing in particular to say.
A young man, sent by the Police School to study, who has finished a M.A. course, in Washington State College, wishes to join the U.N secretariat. I gave him no encouragement.
Saw the dentist at 2. Pulled up my courage to tell him that I did not wish to have any more of my teeth pulled out. He barely acquiesced.
Dinner with Mike Peng 【彭樂善], who served Hunan smoked meat and chicken as hors d’oeuvres; clever idea.
