Both of them hesitate to proceed to elections for a national government, for fear, lest such a national government would intensify the division between N. and S. and between the U.S.A. and the U.S.S.R. Told them there was no alternative, for the U.S.S.R. would only sanction the unity of a Communist Korea. Told them also that the U.K., France, Canada, and Australia wish the U.S.A. to concentrate on Europe. Afternoon, took children to the planetarium. Evening, Hsiao 【蕭蘧] and Chieh Liu 【劉鍇] came to play bridge. Hsiao said that N. Z. 【唐玉瑞] was calm but still refused to consider a divorce.
