Started writing a preface to a book on Kuo Sung-tao 【郭嵩燾].
Received a wire from Nanking, saying that C. 【蔣中正] wished to see me at 9 a.m. the 14th. Discussed with C. M. 【李卓敏] about the Indian Mission. He feels that India is not the place for me. He agrees that I should stay away from the gov’t for some time, even suggesting that I accept no teaching. Told me that he had wired to his brother C. H. 【李卓皓] about my availability for U. of California. Then we had a long chat about my divorce. When he saw N. Z. 【唐玉瑞] in New York in late August, he got the impression that she would, under no circumstance agree to a divorce. He does not know that she is a woman totally devoid of sentiment. Da Pao 【蔣智仁] had to go to school on borrowed money, while N. Z. had with her between 3,000 and 4,000 dollars. She had even no affection for the children. Hilda 【沈恩欽] and I went over some parts of my diary.
