蒋廷黻日记>19461003
Today, 申報, giving the background of my resignation, poured fine ridicule on T. V. 【宋子文]. The Evening Post publishes an editorial, “Dr. Tsiang resigns,” very generous in praise. Stark, the Netherlands delegate, and Hinder of the U.K. both sent me kind and generous words of praise. One man from the Bank of Communications sends me a letter of indignation against T. V. and the government.
Held a staff conference at 10. Told them that critics of China might seize the present occasion to reduce China’s program. It was our duty to counter any such move by carrying on as usual.
Reg. Hsiao 【蕭蘧] came for supper: told me that P. H. Ho 【霍寶樹] was trying to secure the services of 黃憲儒 and 楊芳 as deputies. P. H. told me that he did not wish to make changes. If he should change both deputies, he would be digging his own grave. Evidently, he knows not what he is doing, and he is not honest with me.
Many members of the foreign staff came to express their appreciation.
