蒋廷黻日记>19451104
Beautiful day. At 10, Hendrickson, Kizer, Williams,【1】 and Clark【2】 came to meet C. M. Li 【李卓敏], Pan 【潘小萼] and myself, at our initial conference. We first settled our time table. He wished to take in Peiping and Tientsin: in order to include them, we had to drop out Nanking. The date for arrival at Shanghai had to be postponed to Nov. 23rd. That would mean I had to be absent from Chungking from Nov. 14th to Nov. 28th. However, one covers a great deal of ground in two weeks.
Then I talked about the needs of China: (I) those common to all parts—(1) means of transportation, (2) medical supplies, and (3) clothing; and (II) those particular to different regions: (1) dike repair in Honan and Hupeh, (2) housing in Kwangsi, Hunan, and Hupeh, (3) food for Kwangtung, Fukien, Shanghai, Kwangsi, and Northern China, and generally, (4) coal for all industrial centers, (5) agricultural implements for Hopei and Shantung, (6) cattle or working power for areas where the Japs were stationed in large numbers. C. M. explained the work of Transportation, Allocation, and Finance Bureaus. Pan talked about relief and the refugees. The session lasted two hours. Afternoon, C. M., Sylvia 【盧志文], Victor 【沈惟泰] and Hilda 【沈恩欽] came to play bridge.
