蒋廷黻日记>19450618
Sunny and warm. At National Memorial, Tsou Lu 【鄒魯] made a speech on Chen Kun-ming’s 【陳炯明] coup d’état, which, being in Cantonese accent, was incomprehensible to most. I noticed that seats had been installed so that we could all be seated while listening: another sign of liberalism, or at least a deviation from Spartanism. F. L. Chang 【張福良] came to urge on me some aid to the Industrial Co-operatives. Told him that I would award contracts to CIC 【中國工業合作社] on terms equal to other contracts but with a preferential priority. Afternoon, Miss Hinds called. Settle with Cheng Tao-ju 【鄭道儒] uses for special funds: and the work of Lenning Sweet. Tung 【董承道] came at my request: on being told that he would receive Ch$150,000 extra, he consented to reconsider my offer of the Bureau of Finance. I don’t blame him for having rejected my offer when it was only Ch$50,000 a month, which was just starvation wages.
