Heat continues. Kizer et al. came at 9. Explained to them the grave inflation problem and asked that UNRRA 【聯合國善後救濟總署] sent airplanes to carry supplies here. Kizer agreed to secure six C-46 and 2 C-47s. Explained the position of pocket areas where I thought emergency relief might well be administered by other bodies, with grants from the central government. He raised no objections. Decided to submit firm request for supplies to supplement lend-lease port program, to the amount of US$190,000,000. Three Xians came again to bother me about their newspapers: told them that I would not serve as the Chairman of their fund-raising committee. 謝徵孚 came to tell me that Ku 【谷正綱] had pressed him to accept a post in his ministry: a tactical move to prevent me from getting Hsieh’s services; how petty. Ku is fool enough to think Hsieh essential to my plans. I told Hsieh that if he wished to join my service, he could; but he had to work full time. He agreed.
