Another beautiful day. At 9:30, when I had everything packed and hotel bill paid, Inantus phoned that the journey had been postponed for 24 hours. A reporter from the Western Australian called. We talked about UNRRA 【聯合國善後救濟總署] and future relations between China and Australia. Li 【李芹根] took me over to the consulate. We simply vegetated. After lunch, I came back to the hotel to sleep and read Christian Science Monitor Magazine and Saturday Evening Post, of which Li had many copies. At 5:30, we went out driving, to take a look at the suburbs. Perth is certainly a nice town: the houses, with few exceptions, are small but very comfortable-looking. Dinner in Chungking Restaurant. The owner refused to accept pay. Then we went to see Address Unknown in Capital: the theater is very comfortable but the film is a big effort at drama without achieving it.

Chinese in Australia learn to speak English better than those in the United States. On the whole, they are better off.
