Cheng Tao-ju 【鄭道儒], my Deputy in CNRRA 【行政院善後救濟總署], arrived today. I had a few moments with him in the morning and an hour in the afternoon. I explained what role I had for him in CNRRA. He had some very good suggestions to make as to personnel. Looked over a house on the banks of the Kialing 【嘉陵江]: $12,000,000 for some 30 rooms, plus a fine view and plenty of empty space. Lunch with the Chungking Rotary Club: spoke on UNRRA 【聯合國善後救濟總署] and CNRRA. The Ministry of Communications sent a whole squadron to see me about rehabilitation of railways, steamships, and motor transport on highways. Evening, dinner with Mr. Lennox and Mrs. Lennox of Jardine Matheson & Co. 【怡和洋行], whom I met in New York. Judge Helmick, P. K. Kuo, Eric Watts, and Mrs. Kuo were those present.
