Most of the day spent in interviewing people who wish to join CNRRA 【行政院善後救濟總署]. One man, whom I wish to have on my staff especially above all others has since joined the Ministry of Communications, much to my sorrow. Today’s papers carry the big news of reduction or abolition of a large number of taxes which served only to hamper trade without yielding revenue and of offices and officials connected with the Ministry of Finance; some carried in full and some in part my interview with the Central News Agency 【中央社] about CNRRA, but the National Herald gave more prominence to my interview than to the financial reforms. Evening, dinner with the Dutch Ambassador; the Belgian Ambassador was there, so were Chu Chia-hua 【朱家驊], P. H. Chang 【張平群] and wife, etc.
