Brought San Pao 【蔣懷仁] and Sze Pao 【蔣居仁] to 浮圖關. While they played about the hill, I went in to give two hours of lecturing. Finished the course. Met H. D. Fong 【方顯廷]【1】 there: talked about co-ordination of rehabilitation with reconstruction. Afternoon, gave some instructions about personnel. Wrote a memo about composition of delegation to 3rd Council Meeting of UNRRA 【聯合國善後救濟總署]. Wire from J. H. Liu 【劉瑞恆], saying, UNRRA has delayed sending 27 tons of supplies for training of health personnel, pending “screening” of China Area Office. At bottom, Americans are barbarous: their attitude towards us is no worse and no better than the British attitude towards the lesser breeds beyond the law. Such dishonesty! When Sayre wrote me about the China Area Office, nothing was said about “screening.” Evening, took the children to see a movie in the British Information Office.

【1】方顯廷（1903-1985），浙江寧波人，紐約大學經濟學學士、耶魯大學經濟學博士。
1929年被聘為南開大學經濟史教授，1931年南開經濟研究所成立，在此從事教學與研究。
1938年起任華北農村建設協進會秘書長，駐貴陽工作；1939年任西南經濟研究所研究主任，同年轉赴重慶主持南開經濟研究所。
1941年赴美訪問美國高等學術機構，至1944年初返國擔任中央設計局研究部主任。
1946年在上海擔任同德經濟研究所執行所長，1947年進入上海的聯合國亞洲及遠東經濟委員會秘書處工作，1948年赴曼谷擔任遠經會經濟調查研究室主任，1964年自遠經會退休。
後曾任遠經會顧問、新加坡南洋大學教授等職。
