Left Casablanca very early. Plane with bucket seats; first hour terribly cold, everybody wrapping himself in a blanket, because of high altitude. Later, steam came on. Fellow passengers are all very young pilots, very heartily jolly. They stood the discomfort in fine spirit. Noon in Tripoli. Afternoon, rough for a little while. When luncheon baskets were passed around, spirits picked up considerably. Evening in Cairo, in camp. Slept only for an hour, rest of the time lying awake. Tried to get some cigarettes, but found P. EX. 【營區販賣部]【1】 and the Officers’ Club all closed. Finally, an officer presented me with a carton of camels, marked “Free for America’s Fighting Men.”
