Sunny and warm. Started drafting speech for Oct. 10th at Hartford. Liu Yu-wan 【劉馭萬]【1】 came to talk about Pacific Institute affairs. Told him (1) dissolution of international secretariat, (2) conference to be limited to non-officials and discussion to be open and free are measures much to be desired. Yafeng 【許亞芬] came to lunch and we had some delightful conversation together. Evening, Chang Kia-ngau 【張嘉璈] came to chat. We covered much ground. Letters from home, dated first part of July: first alarm in Paoking 【寶慶], but quickly over.

【1】劉馭萬（1896-1966），湖北宜昌人，清華學校畢業後赴美留學，得歐柏林學院學士、威斯康辛大學政治學碩士學位。
1924年返國後，曾任基督教武漢青年會總幹事、全國建設委員會總幹事等職，1931年起任太平洋學會中國分會幹事，1943-1946年任執行幹事，並曾任鐵道部及交通部總務司幫辦兼人事科長，及經濟部物資局昆明辦事處處長。
1946年起歷任駐日盟軍總部中國代表、駐漢城公使銜總領事，1948年起任駐韓國大使銜外交代表，兼聯合國駐韓國委員會中國首席代表，1950年調派為駐日代表團大使銜副團長。
1951年調任駐聯合國代表辦事處顧問，1953年起兼辦事處處長，1951-1956年又任聯合國大會中國代表團秘書長。
1957年後歷任駐古巴公使（後升格為大使）兼駐海地公使、駐韓大使、駐泰大使。
