Wei 【魏道明], Chang 【張嘉璈], Sze 【施肇基], P. W. Tsou 【鄒秉文],【7】 Gen. Huang 【黃秉衡?], James Yen 【晏陽初] were the Chinese present.【8】 Connally introduced the senators and made a little courteous speech. Wei introduced the Chinese. Sze made a little speech. Currie and Lowdermilk also spoke. On the way back, called on Gen. Shang Chen 【商震]【9】 in the Shoreham. He tells me C. 【蔣中正] had a severe cold for 5 weeks; was directing the Loyang 【洛陽] campaign. He says 13th Party Congress 【中全會]【10】 was called by C. to give elders a chance to air their views: C. blaming Sun Fo 【孫科] for criticizing the party before speaking to him (C.)

1916年回國後，任金陵大學農林科植物學與植物病理學教授，翌年改任南京高等師範學校教授兼農科主任；

後任上海商品檢驗局長、上海商業儲蓄銀行副總經理。
1943年與沈宗瀚等人赴美出席聯合國糧農組織籌委會，1945年該會成立後任執行委員，1947年任中美農業技術合作團中方團長。
1948年後從商，任紐約和昌公司董事長，1956年回中國大陸，任農業部、高等教育部顧問及全國政協委員。

曾參與革命、北伐等戰役。
1928年後曾任河北省政府委員兼主席、山西省政府主席兼民政廳廳長、天津警備司令、代理天津市長、河南省政府主席，並授陸軍二級上將。
抗戰期間，曾任第六戰區司令官、軍事委員會辦公廳主任兼外事局長、緬甸軍事考察團團長、開羅會議中國代表團高級隨員。
1944年03月起任駐美軍事代表團團長，1945年08月起任國民政府參軍長，1947-1949年任盟國對日委員會中國代表兼駐日本軍事代表團團長。
