Submarine SPLENDID (Lt I L M McGeoch) was sunk by German destroyer HERMES (captured Greek destroyer VASILEFS GEORGIOS I) SSE of Capri. Eighteen crew members were lost. Twenty seven crew, including Lt McGeoch, Ty/Lt R G Balkwill RNVR, Lt G G Hardy RNVR and Ty/Lt (E) D Laidlaw, were rescued and made prisoners of war.
