Chang Nai-wei 【張乃維], the new Cultural Counselor, came to consult about his work. He was promoting a tour for Chinese students in the U.S.A. to visit Taiwan: people who had never seen the island or not seen it for many years. Encouraged him to go ahead, but told him not to discriminate against people of Taiwan origin. Should China promote an international conference of sinologues in Taiwan? I did not know. Should we organize reception centers in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Seattle during summer and early autumn, to help incoming students? Yes.
