Meeting of agency heads. Gen. Lu 【盧福寧] reported that military aid program was proceeding smoothly, on schedule.
Returned the call of Iran Ambassador; was shown a book of poems by him; translated into Chinese by Wu Nan-ju 吳南如 and Hu Ching-yu 胡慶育, hand written beautifully, by Hu. The author was selecting ancient Iranian prints for illustration. When out, the book will be very beautiful.
Dinner with Anna Chennault 【陳香梅]: Senators Tower, Dirksen, Miller;【1】 Drumright 【莊萊德], Corcoran, R. C. Chen 【陳長桐], and Mrs. Hodges: the latter is a good golf player, handicap 14. Her success gives me encouragement, for she is very slight, probably weighs less than 100 lbs.
Tried to tell Corcoran to tell Anna to be careful in her relief work; I did not know John Lee at all.
Cabled back that I would prefer Washington to New York, since the U.N. was declining in importance.
