Frank Tao 【陶啟湘] told me that he had decided to resign from government service since he wished to send his children to school here. Talked with him at length.
Dictated an article on Hu Shih 【胡適] for the New China Review.
Attended dinner given by Anna Chennault 【陳香梅]. Met there Gov. and Mrs. Noe【1】 of Louisiana, Thomas Corcoran, Farrell of U.S.A. Immigration and Naturalization Service, Col. Rector, Mr. and Mrs. Fuller (Campaign Manager for Nixon), and Congressman Derounian.【2】 Corcoran said Johnson was pre-occupied with the election in Texas; otherwise, he is still high in the councils of Kennedy. He thought George Ball entirely absorbed in Europe. Reston thought the U.S.A. has made three mistakes: (1) Cuba, (2) the Berlin wall, and (3) Laos.
