Igor Oganesoff,【1】 writing in the Wall Street Journal, Friday, Feb. 2, thinks the economy of the mainland is going through “serious erosion.” He singles out “the elevation of untrained Communist Party functionaries to positions of management responsibility” as one of the main causes not usually stressed.
At 3 p.m., went to Chinatown to address a street celebration of New Year and visit 中華公所 and 安良堂.
At 5, went to Cathay Restaurant to attend a banquet. Senator and Mrs. Muskie,【2】 the Commissioner of the District of Columbia, and a congressman were there. I spoke briefly, so did Muskie.
At 8, took Hilda 【沈恩欽] to dinner in Harvey’s.
