At 11:30, went to the New Senate Office Building. At the end of a long, long corridor was the office of Senator Lausche【2】 of Ohio, Chairman of the Sub-committee on the Far East of the Foreign Relations Committee. His secretary phoned to him, to get him out of a committee. He first asked me if there was anything special in the Far East. I told him about the worries of China, Thailand, and Vietnam in regard to Laos. He said he never trusted Phouma. Brown,【3】 U.S.A. Ambassador, testified before his group last year that Phouma was not reliable. He realized that Laos was the gateway to Thailand, Vietnam, and Malaya. Turning to China, he said that Stevenson last year stated before his committee that the admission of Red China into the U.N. was “inevitable;” he saw nothing inevitable about it. He would oppose it to the end.
At 5 p.m., called on Ambassador of Central African Republic.
Evening, entertained at dinner: George Kao 【高克毅], T. L. Yuan 【袁同禮]【4】 and wife, Hsu and wife, Li and wife, and Frank Tao 【陶啟湘] and wife. A nice time together, chatting about politics and history.

1924年返國後，曾任嶺南大學圖書館館長、北京大學目錄學教授兼圖書館館長、北平北海圖書館館長、故宮博物院圖書館副館長、國立北平圖書館館長。
1948年赴美，1949年曾任聯合國教科文組織第四次大會中國代表，返美後任職於美國國會圖書館。
1951-1953年任史丹福大學研究所編纂主任，1957-1965年參與美國國會圖書館編目部工作。
