Cable from home, asking me to go to Taipei 2 or 3 days after George 【葉公超], so that we can have some time together there. Unfortunately, he must get back on April 1st or 2nd and I have invited African delegates to dinner on 28th, 29th, and 30th; that means that I can leave not earlier than the 31st.
Taipei is angry, naturally. The acknowledgment of 2 Chinas de jure means the end of the hope for recovery of the mainland. Domestically, such a blow may prove fatal.
Golf practice. Results much better.
