蒋廷黻日记>19551004

Morning, office.
Lunch with Jay and Pagie. Latter just back from France, deeply impressed by the internal divisions and weaknesses of France.
Dodgers won the World Series.
Dinner with T. V. 【宋子文], George 【葉公超] and his wife, Wally Kwok 【郭慧德] and his wife, Liu Chieh 【劉鍇], Hu Shih 【胡適], and Koo 【顧維鈞]. George had a long talk with Dulles. Latter complained that Taiwan did not remain so calm as Bonn during recent months. D. asserted that there would not be a ministerial meeting between the U.S.A. and the Reds. As to embargo, a few items would be removed, but large number of items would remain. I called George’s attention to the Indonesian elections. He told me he had already done what I expected.
