At 9:30 a.m., took Chang-huan 【沈昌煥] to the office, where he drafted a cable to Ministry and I held my delegation meeting. I asked for suggestions as to points to be included in the speech in the general debate. C. L. Hsia 【夏晉麟] suggested a critique of the phony peace and a warning about Russian smiles. S. S. Liu 【劉師舜] suggested a report on progress in Formosa. Shuhsi 【徐淑希] in a very vehement speech demanded concentration on the Reds’ aggression and inhumanity. He asserted it was our duty to plead the case of our fellow countrymen before the U.N. and to let the world know their sufferings. Reminded him that I devoted my 1951 speech to “inhumanity,” that we have furnished much information on slave labor and narcotics to the U.N. and to AFL 【美國勞工聯合會] and to International Free Trade Union conventions, and that we have aided or stimulated Hunter (Brain-washing) and Walker (China Under Communism) in writing their books. He thought he had discovered the theme of inhumanity whereas the rest of us have been doing the very thing during the last 5 years. He sees and hears only himself.
Took Chang-huan to call on Hammarskjold and to lunch with Victor Hoo 【胡世澤].
Tiro came in the evening.
