蒋廷黻日记>19550820

Went to the office at 9:30. Chang-huan 【沈昌煥] came from Washington to give N. C. Nyi 【倪源卿] and P. H. Chang 【張平群] a briefing on the Sun Li-jen 【孫立人] case. Morning papers did not carry the item. Radio at 7 and 8 carried it, and then dropped it. Emphasis is on the floods in New England and P.A.
Called on Hu Shih 【胡適] and brought him to Englewood. While Chang-huan talked with Hu Shih, I listened to radio. At 2 p.m. Koo 【顧維鈞] came and gave us a report on his talk with Radford. The latter was not too alarmed, hoped that Sun’s services would not be lost, and suggested that reforms in the military system might be pushed.
Koo left at 4, Chang-huan went to take a nap. Hu Shih and I talked history.
Evening, S. S. Liu 【劉師舜], C. L. Hsia 【夏晉麟], Shuhsi Hsu 【徐淑希] and their wives came to dinner.
