Went to the office early. Shuhsi 【徐淑希] and Chiping 【江季平] came in with their suggestions for improvement of the draft. On the whole, they wished to tone down, afraid of the reaction at home and abroad. To satisfy them, and in some places to satisfy myself, several changes were made. By 12, typing and mimeographing were all finished.
Came back for lunch.
At 2:45, handed the letter to Cordier, in the absence of Trygve Lie.
At 3:15, S.C. on Kashmir. Resolution passed.
H. C. 【江季平] invited tea in Great Neck.
Ko Tai-shan 【柯台山] rode back with me, complaining about Hu Shih’s 【胡適] criticisms of his two booklets. He felt Hu Shih emphasized the minutiae which had no place in revolutionary politics.
Dinner with Cody on the top floor of the building. He is a painter. I thought his watercolors were good, and some of his oils not bad, but he has bought some very mediocre Chinese paintings.
