M. 【李卓敏], and Price 【畢範理]: regional offices—personnel, etc. At 3, staff meeting. 熊天翼【式輝] came to tell me that Shen Hung-lien 【沈鴻烈] agreed to head up Manchurian Regional Office. 柯育甫came: wishes to be Deputy Director in Anhwei. Fu Sze-nien 【傅斯年] came to supper. Told me that he had found evidence that Kung 【孔祥熙] privately bought a large block of gold bonds at 20 to 1 after the government had declared stoppage of sale, that the case was about to be taken up in court, that Kung sent the Duke 【孔德成] to appease Fu, promising to return the money to the government, that C. 【蔣中正] has been extremely harsh with Kung, etc. Fu also complained about Sah’s 【薩本棟] immaturity as Executive Secretary of Academia Sinica. Frank Price 【畢範宇] came to talk about employment of the student interpreters. 朱經農 urged me to appoint 曹仲植 as Director for Shantung, I refused. 潘【小萼]【1】 of Red Cross urged me to take over his corps of health workers, at 15,000,000 a month. Told him to appeal to UCR 【美國援華聯合會] first.
