Price 【畢範理] el al. came at 9. We discussed the cholera situation. Just then, a cable came from J. Heng Liu 【劉瑞恆], telling me that UNRRA 【聯合國善後救濟總署] was ready to help. I immediately asked Cheng 【鄭道儒] to get in touch with NHA 【衛生署]. Was later told that NHA needed no help. Towards 5:30 p.m., Price, Johnson, and Powers dropped in my office and told me that they had seen P. Z. King 【金寶善] and had agreed to ask UNRRA for certain supplies and 7 doctors and 2 sanitary engineers, to flown in directly from the U.S.A. to Chungking within 3 weeks.
William Wu came from Kunming: arranged for the appointment of a receiving agent there.
Pei Tsu-yee 【貝祖詒] came to lunch and brought me a MSS on China’s capacity to pay, prepared by C. M. Li 【李卓敏] and Arthur Young. It is too lengthy: goes into more detail than necessary. Li and Young remain too academic.
Sent Baker a memo, on his draft of a handbook for field workers.
Fu Sze-nien 【傅斯年] came to chat in the evening. He will soon go to Yunnan, on a mission of persuasion.
